Music Endeavors

Summer is here and I hope you’ll get some fun in the sun with time to relax and be refreshed!
.
Heartfelt Music Ministry is about Music, Leadership, and Training. Last month, I highlighted the “Leadership” aspect of what we do through mentoring worship leaders, guiding young people in faith and musicianship, and leading congregations in authentic worship of God. Next month, I’ll highlight the “Training” aspect of what we do. This month, I’m highlighting the many “Music” aspects of what we do.
.
My Concerts – I’ve been performing live concerts since I was in high school, but ever since COVID I’ve mostly been doing online concerts. Online concerts can reach more people. Currently, there are 14 recorded and available to view on my YouTube Channel. I’ll be doing another Home Concert Sunday, August 16, at 5:00pm, which will introduce the songs I’m recording on my new worship album.
.
Mount Hermon Summer Concerts – Join us for Worship in the Redwoods! Heartfelt Music helps produce these concerts. You’re invited to enjoy them in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains for a free evening of music, worship, and community. They will be on Saturdays at 6:30 PM (Starting June 20th) in the Mount Hermon Conference Center’s main auditorium. Admission is free, but seating is limited! Please reserve your spots in advance via iTickets. For the full schedule and ticket links, visit Mounthermon.org/summerconcerts. Here is ta list of the up-coming artists:
6/20 – The Katinas
6/27 – The Heritage Singers
7/11 – Nichole Nordeman
7/18 – Phillips, Craig and Dean
7/25 – Fernando Ortega
8/1 – Sandi Patty
.
Albums and Videos – I have produced 19 albums over the years and I’m working on a new one with 10 of my favorite worship songs by others. There are currently eight albums available to purchase or just listen to on YouTube, Spotify, and other music platforms. I have 53 videos of me performing individual songs at Reggie’s Songs Playlist.
.
Sheet Music – I have written out 16 of my songs as complete manuscripts of Music Notation, Guitar Tab, and Chord Diagrams. The latest is No Greater Love. You may be interested in some of my popular songs like Ain’t Nobody and Mary Christmas, or some of my newer songs like I’ll Worship with My Life and Time with You. The melody lines are written out to those songs with vocal parts.
.
Private lessons – Thoughout the year, I teach private lessons for guitar, bass guitar, voice, songwriting, music production, and worship leading. These lessons are tailored to your needs, incorporating video, detailed explanations, and a wealth of resources to help you reach your goals.
.
Guitar studies – I am the Director of Guitar Studies at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California, and enjoy helping students with their music interests during the school year.
.
Heartfelt thanks!
I appreciate your interest and involvement in this ministry! Your prayerful support, listening to songs, watching videos, and engaging in concerts is such an encouragement to me.

Summer Private Lessons Available

Now that Valley Christian High School is out for the Summer, I have a little more time for private lessons. I’ll be teaching online through MOOZ (an application like ZOOM, but for musicians) on Tuesdays late afternoon and evenings. If you would like to accelerate your learning and reach new heights in your music journey, contact me at [email protected]

Reggie’s New Worship Album

I’m working on a new worship album with ten meaningful songs from other songwriters that have influenced me over the years. I’m planning on performing a Home Concert Sunday, August 16, at 5:00pm, with those songs and stories of how they’ve touched my heart and how I’ve used them to encourage others. I’ll let you know more details in the July newsletter.

No Greater Love Fully Written Out

Seeing music written out is such an advantage to learning songs. This is why I have written out 16 my songs with music notation, guitar tablature, and chord diagrams. It’s easy to see the guitar and vocal techniques I use in each song. I just wrote out my song No Greater Love. It’s available to purchase at Gumroad.com as a PDF download.

Character & Integrity

I have written an article under the Think about It section on the Heartfelt Music website to guide and challenge you with a thoughtful look into what character and integrity means. CLICK HERE to read the full article.

Character and integrity are not merely abstract concepts. They are values that are lived out and permeate every interaction we have, both personally and professionally. As individuals who create and inspire through our artistic expressions and daily lives, fostering a commendable character and unwavering integrity becomes essential not only for our development but for the positive influence we can have on others.

Character encompasses the collection of traits that define a person. These attributes can span various domains such as the physical, emotional, mental, and moral. Together, they serve as a framework through which others perceive us, determining whether we are seen as having a commendable character or a reprehensible character. A person characterized by commendable qualities displays honesty, helpfulness, and respect for others. Such individuals are often viewed as reliable and trustworthy, making their presence uplifting and inspiring. The moral and personality traits that contribute to good character act as guiding principles, directing behavior in a way that is aligned with ethical standards.

Integrity represents a commitment to honesty and maintaining consistent moral principles. It is a trait marked by the ability to do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Integrity demands a convergence of one’s actions, values, and character, reinforcing reliability and ethical behavior. Integrity isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being whole (the word actually comes from the Latin integer, meaning “intact” or “whole number”).

May you experience “wholeness” and integrity in your life and character.

Private Lessons & Coaching Online

Would you like to take your guitar playing to the next level? I am teaching both children and adults online and in person, both acoustic and electric guitar and electric bass guitar. Do you know a friend or family member who would like to take lessons? I am teaching on Tuesdays through May and would love to help you in your music endeavors. Email me if you have any questions.

Devotionals to Encourage You

One of my responsibilities with Valley Christian Schools is to coordinate and create online devotional videos for those who can’t make the devotions in person. There are about 75 of these faith building videos on a YouTube Playlist open to the public. From topics like “Identity in Christ” to “Meaningful Interruptions,” you can be encouraged too.

Vocal Workshop for Singers

Working with musicians who either lead singing in churches or love to sing while playing guitar, there’s always a desire to improve. I recorded a vocal training workshop for a church and now I’m making it available for everyone. I explain the elements of great vocal production, problems to avoid, how to sing with confidence, and more. I majored in Vocal Performance in college and love to sing!

New Book Release by Lynn Fox

I wrote the Preface to this book by one of my favorite Bible School instructors Lynn Fox, Psy.D. This book is about the Presence of Intimacy, Passion, and Pleasure from a Biblical perspective. “In a world increasingly captivated by both the complexities of human connection and the search for spiritual fulfillment, it is rare to find a work that so boldly addresses the intersections of two profoundly significant aspects of our lives: sex and worship. Sex and Worship is probably one of the most provocative book titles to grace the pages of contemporary literature, yet Lynne Fox does not shy away from the challenge. Through her insightful prose, she masterfully interweaves these critical topics, creating a tapestry that speaks to both the heart and the spirit.” (from the preface) CLICK HERE to order a copy.

Worship Leading Insights & Training

Training is a part of what Heartfelt Music Ministry is all about. We have just made public a Worship Training video for your worship team. I cover the Four P’s to help everyone make worshiping together more meaningful: Pray, Prepare, Participate, and Practice. With the worship team from Gilroy Presbyterian Church, they share why they play on a worship team and what they are thinking about while they are leading. We introduce four popular songs and play a full arrangement of them. Another series of videos are called Worship Leading Insights by various experienced worship leaders (see below). May these videos inspire and motivate you to find more meaning as we worship.

.

Worship Team Workshop Video

This is a training video for your worship team. I have used this video in my training sessions with various churches and now I’m making it available to you at no charge. It is an inspiration for a worship band to see. I include explanations of how to introduce four popular songs. We at Heartfelt Music Ministry hope this video inspires and motivates you to lead worship effectively and confidently.

Point of Grace Concert Disneyland Fun with Family40th Wedding Anniversary

Ministry & Family

I hope you’re having a great summer and making time to get renewed and refreshed. It’s so important to balance ministry endeavors with family priorities. Navigating through them can be very hard sometimes. I want to balance doing God’s work with others and keeping family relationships strong.
.
As far as ministry, the Mount Hermon Concert Series has been inspiring hundreds of people every weekend this summer. Last weekend, we had such a meaningful time with Phillips Craig & Dean. This weekend is Nichole Nordeman and next weekend the series closes with Point of Grace. Tickets are still available, so if you’re in the area we’d love to have you attend! I am leading worship for churches like San Jose Christian Church and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Keeping my creativity flowing, I’m writing a new guitar instrumental called Partly Cloudy. I’m also preparing for my classes to begin again in a few weeks at Valley Christian School.
.
Family has been a main focus recently. Some difficult things have happened this summer like my brother, Steve, passing away from a courageous battle with cancer. Also, after 8 1/2 years, we had to put our sweet dog to sleep. Many of you can empathize with these difficult circumstances. On a happier note, our boys, their wives and our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter went to Disneyland and Universal Studios. We had a blast! Also, Sherri and I look forward to celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary this summer. What a wonderful journey with the love of my life!
.
I’m so thankful that there are people all over the world opening my newsletter. And shout out to Massachusetts! I notice that there are a number of people opening my eNewsletters in Massachusetts! I’m thrilled and maybe should set up a concert with you! 🙂

.

The Heartfelt Music Executive Board and I are so grateful for your continued involvement with Heartfelt Music. You can greatly underscore and support this ministry with a financial gift. Renew My Heart Today

Songwriting is deeply personal. Though most of the songs I write are meant to encourage others, they are written out of my own experience and often come around to lift my spirits time and time again. The song Hold Me, from my new album Encore, has been a powerful prayer for me recently. I thought I’d share it with you.
.
Hold Me
.
(Verse 1)
Early in the morning
I turn my thoughts to You
Empower me to follow in Your ways
You know all the hard things
I’m facing to get through
Revive my soul to trust in You today
.
(PreChorus)
Caring for the world that You love
Sharing with them healing from above
.
(Chorus)
Hold me, Hold me
Create in me a clean heart O God
Renew my heart today
.
Give it a listen on YouTube or use your favorite music app (like Spotify). You can purchase a digital copy of my Encore album at Gumroad.com.
.

The photo above is a recent picture of the VCS high school Introduction to Guitar and Electric Bass class. I’m so proud of them and I’m grateful to be working with them.

God’s Desire for You

There are many helpful verses in the Bible that clearly spell out what God’s will is for our lives. One of my favorite sections is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” What an important reminder of all the blessings God brings our way and rejoice in them; keep a constant and open dialogue with God about everything we do and everyone who crosses our path; and maintain an attitude of gratitude, being thankful in the midst of all our circumstances. We need to rely on God’s Spirit to live in “His will” moment by moment. May you experience His joy this week!
.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support!

Living a Balanced Life

Here we are in the middle of summer and it sure is flying by. I’m continuing to lead worship at various churches in the Bay Area and weekly train musicians and worship leaders in-person and through Zoom. I’m so grateful to help others excel in their musical and ministry endeavors.
.

There are four Saturdays left of the Mount Hermon Summer Concert Series. All the concerts are free, but you must register through iTickets. Veritas had to move to July 29, with Michael O’Brien, because of a family emergency. Here’s the new line-up:

I did a Summer Home Concert through Facebook Live which is now available on my YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/dpx16y_XN6o. I played all the songs on my latest album, Encore, and wrapped it up with My Prayer for You. I hope it encourages you!
.

I’ve been hearing recently that more and more people are experiencing anxiety, emptiness, and despair. More pastors are feeling lonely; care workers are feeling discouraged; and teachers are feeling less valued. One way to personally work through this disheartening trend is by living a balanced life. How are we doing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? Stephen Covey, in his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, gives 4 personal habits for us to keep in mind to help us stay balanced and victorious in life. These have been very inspiring for me.
.

1)  Be Proactive [Habit 1]
Take initiative in life by realizing that your decisions are the primary determining factor for effectiveness in your life. Take responsibility for your choices and the consequences that follow.
2)  Begin with the End in Mind [Habit 2]
Self-discover and clarify your deeply important character values and life goals. Envision the ideal characteristics for each of your various roles and relationships in life.
3)  Put First Things First [Habit 3]
Prioritize your life. Make sure you put the important things in your life before the many little things that can keep you from what matters most.
4)  Sharpen the Saw [Habit 7]
Balance and renew your resources, energy, and health to create a sustainable, long-term, effective lifestyle. Make regular time to reload physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

.
Our relationship with God is vital in maintaining a balanced life: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). God loves us deeply and wants us to enjoy an abundant life! May you experience intimacy with Jesus in a fresh way this summer!
.

Thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and support for Heartfelt Music® Ministry. We couldn’t do this ministry without you.

.
